Abstract

This dissertation covers. the role of the interpreter in a specific stage of an armed conflict, that of peacekeeping, according to Brahm's (2003) definition of conflict and the stages of a conflict. For this purpose the author felt it was a good idea to focus on only conflict, that of the war in the Former Yugoslavia, and more specifically, the situation in Bosnia. This approach has allowed to zoom into the role of the interpreter and how it unfolds in practice, as well as to how the users and the interpreters themselves perceive this role, allowing to contrast their opinions and reach certain conclusions for training language mediators in these scenarios.
