Abstract

Introduction: The role of a caregiver is essential for the care of children with disabilities; however, this population experiences considerable psychological pressure. The study focuses on the impact of parenting styles on Caregiver Syndrome among parents of children with disabilities in Guayaquil. Methodology: A total of 65 caregiver parents, mostly women, were evaluated using the Parenting Practices Questionnaire and the Zarit Burden Interview. Results: A significant association was found between the authoritarian parenting style and a higher perception of caregiver burden, explaining 10% of the variation in burden. This style, characterized by high demands and control, created an environment of tension and stress for the caregiver. Discussions: These results highlight the need for future research and specific interventions to alleviate the effects of Caregiver Syndrome, improving the well-being of families affected by disabilities in contexts like Guayaquil. Conclusions: This study provides a basis for understanding how parenting practices affect the well-being of parents caring for children with special needs and suggests pathways toward more effective interventions.
