Resumen

The participants in this round table analysed the enduring international popularity of Irish short stories taking into account the contributions of young Irish authors, studying their topics, and revising their aesthetics. Short stories by authors such as Colm Tóibín and Bernard MacLaverty were tested as representative of the work of a young generation of writers who have been able to assimilate and renovate the Irish art of storytelling. Besides, we paid special attention to Irish women writers and to the debate on whether they continue creating a confessional and rather conventional type of short stories or they have furthered the renovation of the Irish short story from a thematic and aesthetic point of view.
