Abstract

This work aims to elaborate a Social Accounting Matrix and Environmental Accounts for Extremadura in 2005 (SAMEAEXT-05), in order to exploit this matrix information. In this sense, social accounting matrices are tools of relevance informative which allow, not only to describe fundamental relations between economy and environment of a specific territory, but also to serve as a basis for the development of different economy models. Thus, the SAMEA will be used as a central core to construct and use analysis tools like SAM multipliers models and applied general equilibrium (AGE) models. Thus, on the one hand, a linear multiplier model is applied on the SAMEAEXT-05 to improve the understanding of the direct and indirect interactions between atmospheric pollutants, raw water consumption and the economy of Extremadura. And, on the other hand, an AGE model following the Negishi format is implemented to estimate environmental and economy-wide gains of water market under 3 different scenarios. First, we simulate a decrease in the availability of raw water in Extremadura due to climate change. Second, an investment in a more efficient irrigation technology is considered. And finally, we extend our AGE model by including the amenity services of the water resource and investigate how the willingness to pay of consumers would affect the efficient water allocation.
