Abstract

Allegations of human rights violations linked to the belief and practice of voodoo and witchcraft committed by members of the African diaspora have been recently documented in Europe, including in Spain. Examples of these violent manifestations are the mistreatment of children labelled as witches, the manipulation of voodoo beliefs to traffic and enslave women for sexual purposes; and the abuses as part of witchcraft rituals. This new phenomenon will be analyzed under the scope of the Spanish Criminal Law in order to protect the victims, set up the limits and address the harmful practices linked to the belief in voodoo and witchcraft.
