Resumen

Tradicionalmente, la práctica deportiva y la capacidad para consumir grandes volúmenes de oxígeno ha estado asociada directamente con un efecto beneficioso para el organismo. Sin embargo, numerosos estudios demuestran que el ejercicio físico es fuente natural de radicales libres de oxígeno, lo que puede implicar la producción de daño a diferentes moléculas del organismo. Durante los últimos años se ha venido observando que los radicales libres, responsables del daño celular y la peroxidación lipídica, son producidos por el propio metabolismo, incluso en estado de reposo. En este trabajo analizaremos los efectos que presenta el ejercicio físico sobre la producción de especies reactivas de oxígeno y el daño celular producido, analizando diferentes tipos de esfuerzos, tanto en intensidad como en volumen.
