Abstract

ABSTRACT The present work is embedded in the field of Translation Studies and it aims to raise the need of a theory of possibility, the so-called hermeneutic-translational theory. On the basis of the functional-structuralist model of the Leipzig school (KADE 1964, JÄGER 1965, NEUBERT 1968), this work critically reviews Otto KADE¿s interlinguisticcommunicative model (1964); the concepts of ¿communicative equivalence¿ and ¿translational linguistic¿ described by Gert JÄGER (1975) and, finally, A. NEUBERT¿s socio-linguistic approach (1973). The focus of this work is on Gert JÄGER¿s concept of ¿communicative value¿ as it is considered the most suitable approach to cover both linguistic and extra linguistic aspects of communication. The duality implied by the mentioned concept leads to the so-called communicative sense through its intentional element. The concept of ¿communicative value¿ is also considered in the light of text and discourse, where the reader becomes an actor with a crucial role. This ¿hermeneutical turn¿ is inspired by authors such as RICOEUR (1986), COSERIU (1986) and STOLZE (2011). Finally, this work presents a unified theory based on the hermeneutic-translational model, where different levels of analysis take place (functional, actional and discursive levels). This theory is applied to the work of Miguel de UNAMUNO San Manuel Bueno, mártir (1933) and its translations into German.
