The unusual feature of this work prepared and co-ordinated by professors from the two hemispheres lies in its analysis of the years between 1808 and 1826, a key period in the history of Bolivia, from a global perspective. The consequences of this historical period are thus reviewed both in the American republics and in Spain. Moreover, it relates the construction of the Bolivian state and nation based on a diachronic and spatial approach, which the authors use to demythologise the inevitability of all American independences, while including parameters that cover the historical intricacy of the period
