Abstract
This research analyses the relationships among family functioning, perception of social support from significant people (father, mother, brother/sister, a friend and a significant adult) and substance use in a sample of 625 valencian adolescents. The statistical analyses were carried out using structural equation modelling. Results showed an indirect relationship between family functioning and adolescent¿s substance use through an empowerment of social support resources. Moreover, results showed, on the one hand, a protection effect of social support from the family relationships and, on the other hand, a risk effect of social support from the out of family relationships.
