Resum

International Business literature recognizes the central role of knowledge and learning as a key determinant of internationalization of firms. While stage-model underlined the influence of experiential learning, new research has shown that other knowledge acquisition are also relevant, which can be structured following Huber's model (1991) as congenital, grafted, vicarious and search knowledge acquisition. But knowledge acquisition is only a first step for learning. In this sense, absorptive capacity appears as a useful construct, integrating knowledge acquisition, assimilation, transformation, and exploitation capacity (Zahra & George, 2002). This paper analysed the influence of knowledge acquisition types on international performance, considering absorptive capacity dimensions as moderator and mediators variables, based on a sample of 200 Spanish exporters SMEs.
