Abstract

Specimens from a wrought iron railing from the Chapel of Santo Espiritu at The Sigüenza Cathedral have been examined with metallographic methods. They show a very homogeneous ferrite structure, a very pure iron, with deformed inclusions. The inclusions have been studied with scanning electron microscope and Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectrometer. The metallographic study has discriminated between the original rail components and more recent ones. A tinned treatment has been identified on the grilles. This treatment protects them from corrosion.
