Abstract
Background: The Pediatric chronic illness can affect physical and psychological health and the quality of life of family caregivers. Method: In order to identify the relationship between quality of life and family functioning, and the statistical differences regarding sociodemographic variables, there were interviewed 446 family caregivers of hospitalized children with chronic illness in a National Institute of Health in México. Results: The correlation coefficient Pearson product-moment indicated significant associations p>=.001, between the scale factors of family functioning and the domains of quality of life inventory; the t test for independent samples showed significant differences p<=.005 between each of the domains of quality of life inventory and sociodemographic variables. Conclusions: The findings are discussed from the empirical evidence for psychosocial research and intervention of families in context of pediatric chronic illness.
