Zusammenfassung

The shaping of catholic hierarchy disregarded -among other figures- prophets. The reasons why they officially vanished, have already been succesfully analysed. In this article I will try to show how it was achieved, the strategies to silence the prophets' voice. Apart from the direct ones, which were less frequent, there was a remarkable indirect strategy which proved highly effective: the making of an identity for the false prophet. Among the ever increasing number of features which belonged to the impostors, I will analyse only two: on the one hand, how they threatened orthodoxy, itself under construction; on the other hand, ecstasy, once a source of authority, but soon only admitted officially for very few people, who were perfectly integrated within the church. It is my contend that the rising of catholic hierarchy included a theorical effort to outline a number of prototypes, where the potential enemies of order could fit.
