Abstract

Throughout the history of the translation studies, there have been many experts who have defended the innate character of translators and their translation competence. However, it has also been proved that such a capacity or competence can be developed and/or reinforced by means of the adequate academic training. When a person decides to study Translation and Interpreting, he/she must go through a preparation process which will constitute a sound basis for them to perform their future professional practice within the adequate quality standards. In order to reinforce the parameters that must guide the first phase of this preparation process in the first year of the degree, we propose to apply a didactic methodology that claims to be logical and coherent, and by means of which our students, thanks to the application of the artificial situation we propose in our method, should be capable of detecting and analysing -through systematic exercise- all kinds of translation aspects deriving from a specific source text. This didactic methodology aims to prove that, going through the correct analysis at their first training steps, in the future our students will be able both to detect all kinds of translation problems -even before these may appear- and to offer the most adequate solution for each specific text and context. Probably, a person can already be born with an innate capacity for translation but, of course, he/she can also become a translator by means of adequate training.
