Resumen

This article deals with the present and future developments of the Spanish labour market. For that purpose, we focus on the analysis of the evolution of the most representative series and variables of the labour market, with particular emphasis placed on unemployment. Two important macroeconomic relationships, the Phillips curve and the Okun law, are also subject to scrutiny. In addition, we pay attention to particular figures of the labour market, to the labour market reforms implemented as well as to the policy recommendations provided by EU institutions in this field. In our article, we offer several suggestions for improving the functioning of the Spanish labour market, such as the transformation of the structure of collective bargaining as well as a better evaluation and funding of activelabour market policies. Finally, we also discuss some recent proposals for reforming the Spanish labour market.
