Abstract

Low angle normal faults (LANF) related with extensional detachments are mapped iñ the Western Betics. They developed during Middle and Late Miocene on continental crust which was previously thickened by fold- and thrust-nappes and the Gibraltar Crustal Thrust. The LANIF thinned the basement of the Alboráñ basin. Superimposed folds and strike-slip faults have modified the geometry of the extensional system
