Resumen

A pesar de que el envejecimiento es un proceso conocido desde la antigüedad, sus reglas y normas todavía no se comprenden completamente. Con esta revisión queremos arrojar luz sobre el complejo mundo de la regulación genética del envejecimiento, específicamente en la regulación de la longevidad dependiente del estado reproductivo del animal. Los estudios genéticos sugieren la existencia de señales lanzadas desde la línea germinal al resto del animal, que determinaría la vida media de éste. En el nematodo Caenorhabditis elegans se ha visto que estas señales están integradas en un diálogo con señales provenientes del medio y con otros tejidos, siendo el balance entre todas ellas el que determina finalmente el retraso en el envejecimiento. Esta regulación parece estar evolutivamente conservada, ya que la ausencia o modificaciones de línea germinal en distintas especies, desde invertebrados hasta mamíferos, genera un incremento de longevidad.
