Abstract

This study presents the hydrological and hydrochemical characterization of two artificial lakes located on the campus of the University Pablo de Olavide (Seville). The water outputs are produced mainly by evaporation from the water surface and through an overflow located in the most depressed area of the lake located at lower height. Entries are due to surface and groundwater runoff generated in the catchment of a small stream that flows into the lake at a greater height. In addition, this stream receives artificial inputs of a nearby golfcourse, so that the circulating flow (ca. 5 l/s) had little variation during the study period.Water quality (average EC ca. 2.1 mS/cm) is subject to these artificial inputs, while salinity is greatly reduced during rainfall events.
