Abstract

AbstractThe history of the term big bang leads to a wide and age-old framework made of mutual, crossed references between science and the origin myth and has come to include a wide number of metaphorical uses. The term was first used in the middle of the 20th century. Its popularity progressivily grew and it is frequently found in today's mass media. The paper focuses on the analysis of figurative uses of the term by Italian and Spanish press in the 20th century, highlights how the metaphors can be used and how they vary depending on the contexts in which they are found, from economics to politics.
