Análisis de la eficiencia en el transporte de mercancías por carretera en Europa

Resumen

Este artículo evalúa la eficiencia del sector transporte de mercancías por carretera en los países de la UE, durante el periodo 2003-2007. La herramienta utilizada en este estudio es el Análisis Envolvente de Datos y los índices de productividad de Malmquist. Los principales resultados confirman que la liberalización del sector ha favorecido la eficiencia de los servicios, aunque las nuevas formas de producción están provocando un peor comportamiento a lo largo del tiempo de los países más eficientes. La localización geográfica de los países parece determinar en parte la eficiencia de escala. Los países de Centro y Este de Europa incorporados a la UE en 2004 presentan ineficiencias técnicas, pero no de escala y confirman su posición emergente en el mercado de transporte.
