Abstract
This paper deals with the process of institutionalisation of the Spanish policy analysis from 1975 to 2010 from a historical-bibliometric perspective. We use a database of 209 articles (out of 3098) published in five Spanish scientific journals of Sociology and Political Science. This paper explores the historical development of this sub-discipline in Spain as well as its special traits. Although policy analysis has been carried out in Spain since long time ago it starts to institutionalise in the scientific field during the 1980’s and 1990’s. The Madrid-Barcelona axis gathers most of the articles of policy analysis in Spain although new production centres arise. This paper studies the topics articles deal with throughout this period. We observe a trend of structural topics (administrative reform, de-centralisation, welfare state) where new issues such as gender grow in importance. When we take into account which methods are used we find out that qualitative approaches are dominant. Lastly, until recently, Spanish policy analysis refused to employ the theoretical frameworks used at the international level.
