Abstract

The need for quantitative information in tourism planning processes on sustainability goals is now a widely accepted issue. Indicators of sustainable tourism have emerged as one of the tools of most practical potential in this field, both for the planner to the sector agents. However, much of the existing proposals in this area used indicators to assess situations performing static sustainability rating in a given period. Given this view, we consider the evaluation of sustainability goals need to study the results of the planning decisions to monitor the effectiveness and efficiency of policies implemented. In this line, this paper presents a comparative study in terms of sustainability in a set of destinations in different time points. The comparison is performed using as a base composite indicators values obtained using a methodology based on goal programming. We must also say that we start from a previous system of sustainable tourism indicators, defined by adopting an usability based approach, so that the information considered have a high potential for effective integration into decision making.
