Resumo

The Bologna Process aims the revolution of European higher education, trying to foster the students’ employability. In the case of the Faculty of Business at Pablo de Olavide University, in Seville, the Business Administration and Management, and Finance and Accounting Degrees have been planned to introduce the students to the business world. Consequently, the “Mathematics for Business” courses should approach, at least, the usual terminology and the most useful techniques. In this paper, we assert that, apart from the importance of the “know-how”, some other ideas can be imported from the business to the academic world. So, we describe the main areas used to analyze companies, and provide the reader with some examples to apply their concepts to our teaching practice.
