Resumen

This paper addresses the application of a cluster methodology to available information on the hiring process observed in the Andalusian economy between January 2007 and December 2010 in the area of workers with high qualifications, which are those belonging to groups of occupation 1 and 2 within the National Classification of Occupations (CNO- 94). This methodology allows dividing the labour market into clusters (or homogeneous local labour markets) by means of the clustering of labour segments defined by the municipality, the occupational group and sector of activity of both the vacancy and the worker, and additionally by sex and age of the worker. This segmentation of the labour market adjusts to current theoretical models of search unemployment. Unemployed workers belonging to a particular cluster are more prone to find employment if they search inside their cluster, since this cluster is based precisely on the successful experiences of employment of other workers with similar characteristics. We think that this methodology can be a useful information tool for labour intermediation, because it can provide each job seeker with detailed and precise information on the most suitable employment environment.
