Abstract

Since 2008 youth unemployment has been increasing progressively to reach alarming values today. The effect of the crisis in this aspect is palpable. However, higher rates of unemployment, greater temporality (and part-time jobs) and lower wages, in relation to the whole population, existed before the economic recession. For that reason, it can be affirmed that the greater vulnerability in unemployment, worse working conditions and more precariousness of the youth group is something structural of our labor market and that the crisis has only aggravated. Using European and national sources, not only the disadvantaged position of young people (16 to 29 yea rs) is confirmed in relation to the population taken as a whole, but also the existence of deep inequalities before and during the crisis in the youth group, being the youngest and women the most precarious and vulnerable given their differential labor characteristics.
