Résumé

The purpose of this study consist of analyzing the relationships between victimization status, fear of crime, and the rates at which respondents make changes to their routines. The sample consisted of 8170 subjects, living in the state of Morelos, Mexico. It was selected from a proportional stratified sampling and was composed of 49.9% women and 50.1% men, in a range of ages from 12 to 60 years old. The measurement instrument was adapted from the Encuesta Nacional de Victimización y Percepción de Inseguridad (Mexico). Results show that victims present higher rates of fear of crime, make greater changes to daily routines, and take greater precautions to protect themselves than non-victims. These effects are higher in men than in women. Finally, implications of these results are discussed.
