Abstract

Despite the proximity of Gredos Mountains (Central System range) to important cities such as Madrid and Salamanca, the bryophyte flora of this range remains little known. In this paper we present the results of a high number of collecting field trips along the last four years in different sectors of this mountain range, mainly in their scarcely sampled high altitude levels. Among the results we underline seven new records for the whole Iberian Central range, six more for the Spanish part of these mountains, 21 for sierra de Gredos, two for Extremadura and one for Castilla y León autonomous communities, as well as numerous new records for Ávila, Cáceres and Salamanca provinces. Several taxonomical and ecological comments are provided when required.
