Resumo

The present exploratory study aims to analyze, in the frame of Social Educatión, outdoor classrooms effect within schools in the connectivity, empathy, academic performance and pro-environmental behaviour. 230 adolescents of both sexes between 12 and 16 years old (M = 13.7, SD = 1.7) participated in the study. Likert-type scales were used to evaluate the following areas: Attitudes, Empathy and Connectivity towards the Natural Environment, Pro-Environmental Behaviour, School Performance and Meaning the Outdoor Classroom. Results showed the Outdoor Classroom has an enhancing effect in these dimensions. In addition, it was observed the Outdoor Classroom enhanced the students' engagement to the school and also the classrooms climate. These results are discussed and future lines of research are proposed related to the creation and strengthening of the outdoor classrooms promoting attitudinal changes, empathy and connectedness to the natural environment and a better adjustment to the school.
