Résumé

This paper presents the results of a service learning experience at the University Pablo Olavide (Seville). At its core, this work has the organization of a community of practice in the school in which 1st year students of the degree of Social Education had their activities. Based on the results of our survey, this paper analyzes how teachers perceived the quality of the established collaboration. Our findings challenge functional readings of the boundaries stemming from this type of connection; furthermore, they highlight the characteristics of the given service as leading towards meaningful alliances. Here we identify several key factors: time of the given service, its continuity, the organizational culture of the collaborating institution, and their perception of the need addressed by the service learning. In this line, to conclude we point at elements that allow the sustainability of collaborations, and the management of more relevant boundaries between university and community.
