Abstract

The realization of physical activity (AF) in the natural environment is currently widespread, whether for competitive purposes, leisure or health (Baena-Extremera and Granero-Gallegos, 2015). In addition to the unbeatable environment, this type of activity involves the development and improvement of all types of conditional and perceptive-motor skills (Baena-Extremera and Rebollo-Rico, 2009). Among the different types of AF that are carried out in the natural environment we find the Adventure Raids (RA). Baena-Extremera and Rebollo-Rico (2009) define it as an orientation competition where the ability to travel autonomously several hours in the fastest possible way, on an itinerary freely chosen by the participants, carrying obligatory and optional steps is valued. Along with a sometimes unimaginable cast of sports, this type of activity requires the realization of various disciplines among which are often found: race, climbing, mountaineering, mountain biking, kayaking, navigation and guidance in various areas, sometimes complex, extreme and wild (Enqvist et al., 2010). This type of competitions have quite a repercussion in the mass media due to its great participation rate, its varied character and its spectacularity (Baena-Extremera, Ayala-Jiménez, and Baños, 2017). The present study aims to perform a theoretical review on hydration in RA, highlighting the importance of it in this type of tests.
