Abstract
The project for the adaptation of the Convent of Jesús as hotel at Merida stands out in the early stages of the network of National Paradores. Commissioned by the marquis de la Vega Inclán and developed by the architect Antonio Gómez Millán, it established the idea of reusing historic buildings as hotels for the state. Abiding criteria of restoration applied in this initiative derived from others previously experimented by both characters in such important monuments as the Patio del Yeso in the Alcázar of Seville (intervened by Vega Inclán and José Gómez Millan towards 1913) and the Roman Theatre at Mérida (restored in 1916-1925 by Antonio Gómez Millán).
