Abstract

This article discusses the foundation and realization of practical reason and the problem of the nihilistic foundation of modern practical reason. From the later two practical imperatives that govern modern and postmodern practice, viz. the performative and the technological imperative, are deduced. For this purpose, the article starts with Kant, the founder of that proposal. Such a discussion is essential if practical reason is to answer the following big question in the light of the problems raised by bioethics and the ecological crisis: What does being a member of the human species mean today?Key words: practical reason, transcendental imagination, Kant, Heidegger.
