Abstract

In the fifties began tourism growth that created the Ibiza today. But this growth was not uniform and some were developed before others. In the fifties SantAntoni led the growth of tourism in the island and in 1960 accumulated 60% of the sector. Subsequently, other areas matched the tourism development of SantAntoniand its Bay. The question that arises is: Why SantAntoni and no other part of the island? The answer to this question seems to be a combination of factors and circumstan ces (natural environment, economic situation, attitudes of residents and local authorities), although a high degree of tolerance from the authorities seems the most likely reason for the initial primacy of SantAntoni Bay. This higher tolerance is due to events that occurred in 1936 during the Spanish Civil War
