Centrality in networks of geographically proximate firms and competitive capabilities

Resumen

Examinamos cómo la centralidad de una empresa dentro de una red de empresas geográficamente próximas afecta sus capacidades competitivas. Nuestro estudio de la población total de un grupo español de empresas pesqueras muestra que los efectos de la centralidad en las capacidades competitivas de una empresa dependen de los efectos de dos características relacionales de sus vínculos directos: la fuerza y el grado de cohesión cognitiva. Específicamente, nuestros resultados indican que la centralidad de una empresa dentro de la red de clústeres mejora sus capacidades competitivas a medida que aumenta la fuerza de sus vínculos directos. Además, las empresas pueden capturar el valor de la centralidad para mejorar las capacidades competitivas con una combinación de vínculos directos fuertes (o débiles) y un grado bajo (o alto) de cohesión cognitiva.
