Abstract

The current study has the goal of exploring the reasons that have made women change their country of residence, as well as which aspects have influenced, made easier or complicated their adaptation and integration in their new surroundings. The fieldwork was carried out in two countries, Estonia and Spain, with foreign born women. Qualitative methodology was used. The motives for the migration of the interviewees analyzed as well as their needs and problems related to their psychological adaptation and that affect social integration. In the process of adaptation of our interviewees, the fulfillment of their expectations and the strategies used for problem solving and facing stressing moments have shown to be important. The provenance of friends has not shown to be important to the psychological well being in the receiving country. We have seen that relations with locals are important for the social integration.
