The twenty-first century is facing once again one of the most challenging political and economic difficulties of the past fifty years: immigration. Although this phenomenon is not new, the response of the European Union is deeply insufficient and disjointed. Disunity in immigration policy of the twenty-eight member states of the European Union creates chaos and the result is the violation of the most basic human rights. This work, therefore, has the desire to summarize the historical events related to immigration and use them to provide a solid basis for understanding the immigration at the present. After that, we will address the current issues related with two aspects: the displaced/refugees Syrians and the sub-Saharan immigration. Finally, the idea is to point out the actual situation and then clarify some ideas that we believe could be advantageous to give a more forceful response to this phenomenon. Keywords: sub-Saharan immigration, Syrian displaced persons, refugees, European Union, migration trends.
