This article introduces the concept of hegemony developed by Antonio Gramsci, taking into account his perspective of the ruling classes and the role of the intellectuals in order to exercise hegemony. According to the Gramscian notion of intellectual, the article analyses his function within the process of hegemony exercised by the ruling class in order to determine the historical bloc, for which the notions of “war of position” and “war of manoeuvre” need to be defined. Additionally, hegemony is related to the international system, highlighting implications and involvements between them.
