Abstract

Five million people worldwide suffer from fibromyalgia (FM). Many authors conducted clinical intervention studies to improve the symptoms of pain chronically evident in the lives of people. The present study aims to carry out a program of standardized rehabilitative physical intervention (IFRE) in the aquatic environment aimed at fibromyalgia patients to alleviate the sensation of pain. Thirty-seven elderly from 30 to 59 years old Spanish women were the participants of this study. There has been an IFRE program for 20 weeks (50 minutes each session and 2 sessions each week, allowing two days of recovery between sessions to avoid muscle fatigue). The program results show an improvement of the various variables studied as self-perceived pain, perceived fatigue, depressive symptoms and overall impact of FM (P<0.05), with similar results aerobic capacity. Moreover, aerobic capacity not related to the other dependent variables of the study. We conclude that although participants were not physically improved their condition, have mitigated the sensation of pain, depression; indicating that the program of physical rehabilitation intervention has a positive effect on psychosocial parameters person.
