Abstract

The pilgrimage routes travelled for religious reasons since ancient times can represent a significant opportunity for the development of tourism activities. This study focuses on one of the three major Christian pilgrimage routes from the Middle Ages, the Saint James Way, trying to analyze the evolution and profile of its tourist-pilgrim. Greater knowledge of this type of tourist will lead to better planning for the development of the areas through which the various routes pass. Religious tourists themselves and pilgrims show some differences.
