Résumé

Immersing ourselves in the acts and budgets of the Municipal Historical Archive of Sevilla has allowed us better understand the situation of primary education at the city after the fall of the Old Regime. Budgetary difficulties, lack of schools, ignorance of the laws, the Local Commission was warned of the obligation to pay teachers, describe a devastating situation. The low valuation of education is evident along with a favorable orientation to the privileged classes that dominated the city council and withdrew funds to keep convents confiscated.
