Zusammenfassung

The excavation and survey campaigns held at Tusculum in May 2018 included a multidisciplinary work involving archaeological, anthropological, topographical and geophysical researches aimed at investigating Tusculum and its territory in different phases of life. This research has been possible thanks to the collaboration among the xi Comunità Montana, the Archaeological Superintendency, the EEHAR-CSIC and the IPCE. The archaeological investigation has revealed the western portion of the 11th-12th century city walls, built by obliterating Roman structures; the anthropological studies focused on the depositional modalities in the ossuaries of the medieval church; the survey led to deepening the analysis of Tusculum suburbs in its northern and eastern slopes to contextualize the settlement investigating its landscape and its mobility diachronically; finally, the geophysical research has highlighted new areas of archaeological interest which are fundamental for future excavations.
