Abstract
In this study we analyze different cases of robbery, looting, and sale of Ibero-American Baroque works of art. First, we will focus our attention on the case of four paintings by Murillo, which left their place of origin during the Spanish War of Independence. Secondly, we will look at three recent cases of robbery in different places, which highlight the existence of a growing awareness surrounding the protection of cultural heritage. In summary, this study addresses the two-way processes of Baroque heritage, from an artistic-juridical point of view, in an attempt to reveal the importance and effectiveness of different legislations ¿national and international¿ spanning from the middle of the twentieth century.
