Abstract

This paper examines the much discussed, yet current issue of “school failure”, from the perspective of the essential contribution of families as a body directly responsible for the development of the learner in conjunction with schools. First we treat the concept of school failure, “its” typology, and a brief review of the multiple causes and factors affecting it. We address the most current data, describing the situation in Spain according to the OECD’s latest PISA. It also studies the role of schools, administration and families. A brief section dedicated to addressing systemic school failure from a clinical perspective. Secondly, we analyze the necessary cooperation of families and the school in today’s changing world in which we live; we do a tour of the most important changes in contemporary society and its impact. Finally, we make an approach of how the two sectors should be marked the assistance needed to achieve the same goal: educating all people live in society.
