Abstract

Despite being an instrument adopted in 1948, the Employment Service Convention No. 88 is still a very important instrument in the ILO’s technical legal instruments today. Placing the starting point in the link between the Convention and the principle that labour is not a commodity, this study reviews the stages it has gone through since its entry into force in 1950, and the scope and content of this instrument. Stressing the importance of overcoming its interim situation and defending an updating of this in line with the challenges posed by the new world of work to employment policies within the ILO’s standards.
