Abstract

We present a synopsis of the genus Andreaea (Andreaeaceae, Bryophytina) in the Gredos Mountains range (Central System, Iberian Peninsula). Eight taxa (seven species and two subspecies) grow in the study area, a surprisingly high number considering that it represents 88.9% of the nine taxa (eight species and two subspecies) here accepted for the whole Iberian Peninsula. An identification key, a list of the localities and a distribution map showing where each taxon grows, and several images are presented to facilitate the identification of the taxa of this taxonomically difficult group.
