Abstract

The sedimentary infill of the former endorheic basin of Guadix-Baza culminated with the development of an exten- sive pediment that has been largely preserved after the capture of the basin by the Guadalquivir river network. Analysis of slope maps derived from a DEM has allowed the identification of morphological features indicative of recent glacis defor- mation. These are lineaments of greater slope, interpreted as normal fault scarps, which produce topographic discontinuities that can exceed 100 m in height (Baza Fault and southeast extension of the Tíscar Fault), and tilted pediment portions. These tiltings are particularly evident in the sector closer to the Tíscar Fault and, in the central part of the basin, where they may have favoured the development of badlands. The orientation of these morphological features seems to indicate extension preferably in the WSW-ENE direction, sub-parallel to the dominant structural trends in the nearby mountain ranges.
