Abstract

The use of marmor in Colonia Patricia Corduba, currently Córdoba, has been widely verified in the field of archaeological research with very early manifestations, in which the use of certain marmora of local origin has been proven in line with the geological resources of the chain of Córdoba, and its proximity to the city. Thus, between the end of the 1st century B.C. and the beginning of the era there must have been a series of quarries that supplied these lapid materials, which will also be used in other areas of the Baetica Roman province. However, there are few works carried out on the quarries of chain of Córdoba and absent those carried out for archaeometric purposes. Although this geological sector has aroused interest since the beginning of the last century, highlighting the presence of a significant number of ancient quarries, its study from an archaeometric point of view has not been approached with the necessary depth. In this paper the first advances on the location of these quarries are exposed as well as some stone varieties used as ornamental stone in Roman times under study.
