Abstract

Caregivers of cancer patients who can be university students that are studying, because of their closeness, face consequences as a result of the assumption of their roleas caregiver. Among the alterations they will face, the one that appears the most andwith greater frequency are emotional alterations, such as anxiety and depression, relationship problems and work and financial problems. One of the key elements in the emergence of these problems is that caregivers receive very little training on how to dealwith the appearance of changes that occur when a relative is diagnosed with cancer, which can favour the emergence of such problems. Due to the relevance of this situation, different authors have tested the effectiveness of different interventions to alleviatethese problems, highlighting psychoeducational interventions, training in problem-solvingand social skills for their beneficial effects on quality of life, cognitive behavioural therapy to reduce sleep disturbances and increase psychological well-being, and finallymeditation as a useful strategy to reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety and improvethe self-efficacy of caregivers. In addition to taking these interventions into account, it isrecommended that different strategies be integrated to achieve greater effectiveness.
