Abstract

Our research is based on the study of a real property as The Carlos V Pavilion is, located in the garden area of Real Alcázar of Seville. A XVI century construction, whose wall hangings are mostly covered with glazed ceramic from the same age. All its inner and outer high skirting boards show this type of covering, as well as the main part of its walls and pews which constitute the building. It is a singular construction for many reasons, which will be discussed thoroughly in the thesis, mainly focused on the building itself and its panes coverings. This thesis makes an approach to the building, dividing its study in the following areas: Historical, Artistic, Constructive, Patrimonial. In this way, we will deepen our documented knowledge of the pavilion, especially when it comes to all the glazed ceramic coverings, which give the construction a unique character. We have identified and catalogued the following pieces - 15.147 elements from the XVI century ranging 64 diferent types - and we have analysed their state of preservation.
