Abstract

In this article, a continuation of another previously published in the Proceedings of the XIX Congress, the Spanish documentation in which the beginnings of official diplomatic contacts are collected for the recognition, by Spain, of the independence of Mexico, is analyzed in detail. It is important to note the change in political attitude that the crown experienced in relation to American independence after the death of Fernando VII. Despite the political instability, there is a line of continuity in the principles on which the negotiation, that led to the signing of the Peace and Friendship Treaty was based.
